Golden Globe Reactions

So I'm a little late with this. I work too much and, well, I'm lazy. Here is what I thought about last Sunday's Golden Globes and how accurate I was in my picks.

Best Picture - Drama

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network

My Pick: The Social Network
Winner: The Social Network

I'm happy this won. It deserves it cause the movie is amazing, even if Fincher himself doesn't think so, and I'm glad to see it win. Now that the Oscar nominations are out I'm a little afraid that the King's Speech might take it in this catergory but if they vote right TSN will win.

Best Picture - Musical/ Comedy

Alice In Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist

My Pick: The Kids Are All Right
Winner: The Kids Are All Right

There isn't much to say, the best movie won.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine
Mark Walhberg - The Fighter

My Pick: Colin Firth
Winner: Colin Firth

This is his year. He is awesome and I'm glad he won. He's so classy.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama

Halle Berry - Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine

My Pick: Natalie Portman
Winner: Natalie Portman

She's awesome in the movie and she deserves it. Her laugh is crazy but she's too cute. I love her.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Johnny Depp - Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp - The Tourist
Paul Giamatti - Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal - Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey - Casino Jack

My Pick: Kevin Spacey
Winner: Paul Giamatti

I got this one wrong. Good for Paul as long as it wasn't Johnny.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hathaway - Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie - The Tourist
Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone - Easy A

My Pick: Annette Bening
Winner: Annette Bening

She was great and deserved to win.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

Christian Bale - The Fighter
Michael Douglas - Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
Jeremy Renner - The Town
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

My Pick: Christian Bale
Winner: Christian Bale

He also deserved to win.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Mila Kunis - Black Swan
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

My Pick: Mila Kunis
Winner: Melissa Leo

I was wrong and I'm happy that I was. She is the best of the bunch and I'm happy she got it.

Best Director - Motion Picture

Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan - Inception
David O Russell - The Fighter

My Pick: David Fincher
Winner: David Fincher

You deserve this win Fincher be excited about it.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture

127 Hours - Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy
Inception - Christopher Nolan
The Kids Are All Right - Stuart Blumberg, Lisa Cholodenko
The King's Speech - David Seidler
The Social Network - Aaron Sorkin

My Pick: Aaron Sorkin
Winner: Aaron Sorkin

Again he deserves it. It was amazingly written.

I'm also glad Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross got there GG because the music in TSN is fuck awesome. Anyway I went 8/10 which isn't too bad. The Academy Awards are going to be tricky and I'll come back with my picks once the nominations have had time to settle.

Golden Globe Predictions

So this Sunday is the Golden Globes. For me this is the first major set of awards to be handed out. They aren't always right but they give you a pretty good idea of how the rest of the award season may go. I'm also going to touch on the categories I care about.

Anyway these are my predictions:

Best Picture - Drama

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network

My Pick: The Social Network

I figure this one will win but I wouldn't be surprised if The Fighter or Black Swan took it. Usually the winner of the Best Picture Oscar doesn't always win the Globe. The Social Network will in BP at the Oscars so they may not win Sunday night.

Best Picture - Musical/ Comedy

Alice In Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist

My Pick: The Kids Are All Right

This category this year is a joke and the only good movie is The Kids Are All Right. If it doesn't win then there is something wrong with THFP.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine
Mark Walhberg - The Fighter

My Pick: Colin Firth

I think he is going to sweep this season. Franco has lost steam and Wahlberg is over shadowed by Bale and Leo in their supporting roles. Personally I'd like to see Gosling or Eisenberg walk away with it because of my raging hard on for The Social Network and because I think Gosling gave the best performance.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama

Halle Berry - Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine

My Pick: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is going to sweep as well. She was fantastic in the film and honestly she deserves it. I think Michelle Williams was amazing in BV but this is not her year. Michelle's was a subtle performance which will be drowned out by Natalie's tour de force.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Johnny Depp - Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp - The Tourist
Paul Giamatti - Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal - Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey - Casino Jack

My Pick: Kevin Spacey

In all honesty I've only seen AIW and know very little about this category but Kevin Spacey is awesome and I hope he wins because Johnny Depp annoys the fuck outta me.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical/Comedy

Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hathaway - Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie - The Tourist
Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone - Easy A

My Pick: Annette Bening

She was great in the film and is respected enough to win it. Personally I want Emma Stone to get it. She was fantastic in the movie and she has truly arrived in Hollywood. She deserves it.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

Christian Bale - The Fighter
Michael Douglas - Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
Jeremy Renner - The Town
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

My Pick: Christian Bale

He deserves to win. His performance was amazing and he has done a lot of good work in the past that has been ignored. The only other acceptable choice is Geoffrey Rush because he was also amazing. It might go to Michael Douglas cause THFP is like that and he had cancer. I would also like to see Andrew Garfield win cause I love The Social Network and I have a massive crush on him. I also want him to get the Oscar nomination.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture

Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Mila Kunis - Black Swan
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

My Pick: Mila Kunis

Don't ask me why but I have a feeling about her this time around. Supporting Actress always awards the new kids on the block and she might take it. If not it should be Melissa Leo who will probably win the Oscar. I'm probably going to be totally wrong but I'm gonna go out on that limb.

Best Director - Motion Picture

Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan - Inception
David O Russell - The Fighter

My Pick: David Fincher

He was the best. Aronofsky was also out standing but Fincher was the best. He has a solid body of work and this is his second nomination. Boyfriend deserves it. I think it depends on who the THFP is going to favor tomorrow night

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture

127 Hours - Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy
Inception - Christopher Nolan
The Kids Are All Right - Stuart Blumberg, Lisa Cholodenko
The King's Speech - David Seidler
The Social Network - Aaron Sorkin

My Pick: Aaron Sorkin

The script is amazing and he should win. David Seidler will win Best Original come Oscar time.

I would do Best Animated but we all know Toy Story 3 is going to win sooo.....

Those are my picks. I'll follow up on Monday with my reactions.

First Ramble

Okay so this is my first post. Basically each post will consist of me talking about the movies I'm watching currently.

I'm warning you right now I have terrible grammar. Sorry.

Right now I'm watching Resident Evil: Afterlife. It's directed by Paul W.S Anderson the husband of the star Milla Jojovich. Ali Larter is also in it reprising her role from the RE: Extinction. If you have seen the first 3 then you've seen this one. Alice is running around, killing zombies with a bunch of no name actors who are probably going to die. Their goal in this one, however, is to find a place offering salvation called 'Arcadia'.

There isn't much to this movie. The acting sucks, the direction is basic, the cinematography is lack luster and the story is exhausted. How many more of these movies can there be? Also there is way to much slow motion and I love slow motion, so that's saying something.

That being said it doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. I love zombie movies regardless of how awful they are. I know that the zombies in Resident Evil are not actually zombies they are infected but, you know, same difference. I think though a lot of the effect is lost when watching it in 2D as opposed to 3D. I can only imagine how much fun this would have been in a theater with the Buddy Holly glasses on my face.

I would recommend this movie to those who love zombie movies or are a fan of the franchise already. I've never played the games but I've heard the movies do them no justice so I guess this isn't a movie for gamers.

All in all this is a good waste of an hour and forty five minutes. It's not a good movie just fun waste of time. Also watching Milla Jojovich and Ali Larter kick ass is pretty awesome. I loves me some strong female characters.

I give this 2 decapitated zombies out of 5.
